There will be an 8th Grade Curriculum Information Night on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS Auditorium.
This event is in person and provided by Principal Mark Thomas. At this event, you will also meet Mrs. Erica Pasquarelli, Freshman Academy Assistant Principal. This is a presentation-style format and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend. Students are also welcome, but to clarify, this is informational and not set up like our 8th grade Open House, which had a variety of clubs, sports and extracurricular activity stops available for students. This presentation will take place in the Auditorium and will provide a preview of what freshman year and beyond will look like at BHS. A copy of this presentation will be provided in the Google Classroom after Curriculum Night.
Please see the 8th Grade Curriculum Night Flier for more information about the topics covered during this presentation.
Much of the information covered on this evening for families includes the details explained below.
Steps in the BHS course selection process:
- The 8th grade teachers of core classes (English, Civics, Math, Science and World Language) are currently entering their recommendations for each student in Aspen. Teachers recommended students for the College Prep (CP) or Honors level 9th grade course associated with their department.
- The BHS Guidance Department will be presenting to 8th grade teams during the week of March 17. During these sessions, 8th grade students will log into Aspen to see their core class recommendations and to select their choice of electives for next year in Aspen.
- Parents and guardians will be able to view the core courses that 8th grade teachers have already recommended for their students and what electives have been chosen by the students starting after all of the sessions have been completed, during the week of March 17. This information can be found in the "My Info" and "Requests" tabs in Aspen in both student and parent accounts.
- Any questions regarding course recommendations can be directed to Mrs. Maggie Lilley, Guidance Counselor, as she will be collecting this information for BHS staff to review ([email protected])
- BMS students have until Friday, April 4 to finalize their course selections in Aspen.
Resources that will be utilized to assist with the Course Selection process have been posted on the Google Classroom created for current 8th graders. The Google Classroom is called BHS Class of 2029 and the Join Code is dkgqpbt.
