Artificial Nails & Their Hazards

Artificial nails are often associated with special occasions, vacations and holidays. While they are attractive and festive they can pose problems for teens and younger children.

Children may be less conscious of minding their nails than adults, particularly during play. They may not be aware of could happen if nails catch on something. Other concerns are infection, long term nail damage such as thinning or brittleness, allergic reactions and contact dermatitis from the chemicals used to apply the nails.

If your child is going to have artificial nails, please encourage them to keep nails at sports length for their safety during play, sports and gym.  In addition, be sure to investigate the nail salon for cleanliness.
