Safety Message from Principal Oliver

This message was set to BMS parents by Principal Lisa Oliver. It's duplicated here for your reference.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware, every few months a new social media trend circulates among young people across the country which requires us to engage in important discussions with our students about safety and responsible social media use. The latest trend encourages children to put metal items into electrical outlets or USB ports, which can lead to serious electrical shocks or burns.

I’m informing you of this to ask that you have a conversation about electrical and fire safety with your children, even if this is a conversation I’m sure many of you have had before. In today’s age of social media, dangerous trends can spread quickly and we ask that you remain vigilant and continue to engage with your children about what they are seeing and hearing both online and in conversations with their peers. At Beverly Middle School, we will continue to encourage media literacy and responsible online behavior.

If you or your child have additional questions or concerns, please contact their homeroom teacher.
